Dallas Coin Club - since 1928

Dallas Coin Club History, Meeting Information & Contact Information:

The Dallas Coin Club was organized in 1928 by William A. Philpott, Jr. and C.A. McGlamery. The first meeting was held on May 24, 1928 and the club has met every month since. It was the first coin club to be organized in the south, therefore the Confederate half dollar was chosen as the club's emblem at the first meeting. The Dallas Coin Club's slogan is "Friendship and Knowledge through Numismatics." The club became a member of the American Numismatic Association on October 1, 1928 and joined the newly formed Texas Numismatic Association in 1960.

In addition to William A. Philpott, Jr., several other well-known numismatists have been members of the Dallas Coin Club. Legendary numismatic dealer B. Max Mehl of Fort Worth was among the charter members of the club and was an active participant. According to the 1934 Dallas Coin Club yearbook, B. Max Mehl "always has something of unusual interest to show the boys." Member Harry W. Bass, Jr. presented a program at the 466th meeting, held on February 16, 1967, concerning his gold collection and many of his collecting experiences.

The Dallas Coin Club meets on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM at La Calle Doce (a Mexican restaurant located at 1925 Skillman, in the Lakewood area of Dallas). Members and guests often arrive as early as 6:00 PM in order to eat dinner and socialize at the restaurant prior to the start of the meeting. Meetings generally consist of club business, "show and tell", an educational program, door price, and raffle prize followed by a free auction (please print out copies of this form if you bring items to sell). A holiday party takes place at the December meeting, and roughly twice a year, the club holds a joint meeting with the Collin County Coin Club.
